Bangladesh Leather Footwear: EU and UK Buyers Linked to Bangladesh Production.

A research example for a Bangladesh manufacturer of leather footwear or leather goods looking for brand and retail buyers in Germany and the United Kingdom.

Independent research example, not a client or buyer. The companies below were identified from their own public reports, websites and published research as research targets only. None has been contacted, none is a MERCOPACT client, and none has said it wants a new supplier. No outreach, RFQ or sales result is claimed.

1. The market hypothesis

Leather footwear is Bangladesh's largest leather export category. A 2022 study by the research group SOMO reports that EU member states together took half of Bangladesh's leather footwear exports in 2020, with Germany the largest European destination, and names several European brands that import leather footwear from Bangladesh. The same study shows a catch: some buyers do not accept leather tanned in Bangladesh. A supplier must know exactly where its leather comes from. None of this shows that any company below needs a new supplier.

A factory would need to use imported, non-Bangladesh leather and show a strong reason to grow that share.Where we make our shoes · Animal welfare policy

Sources opened on 22 October 2026. The SOMO study covers 2020 to 2022 trade data, so current volumes must be rechecked before outreach. We listed four companies, not five: brands that make their goods in their own Bangladesh factory were left out, because they are not outside buyers.

3. Qualification questions

Leather origin

Which tanneries supply the factory, whether they are LWG certified, and whether the buyer bans Bangladesh-tanned leather or hides.

Product-specific fit

Construction (cemented, stitched, moulded), categories, size ranges, lasts and order sizes each buyer works with.

Compliance and testing

amfori BSCI or similar social audits, EU REACH chemical testing and the buyer's own supplier code.

Reason to add a supplier

Capacity, price, lead time or a product gap. Only a real answer from the buyer turns an account into an opportunity.
